Baripada: Six ambulance employees were thrashed by some locals after a 108 ambulance hit a rickshaw at Chauliashola Chhak in Mayurbhanj district today early morning.

The employees received injuries in the attack and were later given preliminary treatment at a nearby hospital.

According to reports, two ambulance employees were returning to Baripada after dropping a patient at Udala when the emergency vehicle they were travelling in rammed into a parked rickshaw. However no one was injured in the mishap.

Irate locals present at the spot beat the ambulance staff black and blue. Following the incident, four other employees rushed to the spot in another ambulance and tried to rescue the beaten staffs. However the locals also detained and thrashed the four ambulance workers.

Badasahi police officials immediately rushed to the spot and rescued all the ambulance workers.

"When we reached the spot after getting information about the mishap, the villagers forcibly took our mobile phones and threatened to burn our ambulance. Later, police reached the spot and rescued us," said the 108 ambulance worker, Manoj Kumar Behera.

An investigation is currently underway into the incident.
