Nayagarh: Six persons allegedly involved in the kidnap and murder of a youth from Kalyanpur village under Sarankul police limits surrendered before the Odagaon JMFC court on Tuesday. Prime accused Jyotirmaya Mohanty alias Kalu, the son of Gotisahi panchayat sarpanch was among the six accused in the case.

Earlier, another accused in the case, Balakrushna Barada of Jamujhola village was arrested and forwarded to court.

Reportedly, one Rabi Pradhan of Kalyanpur village went missing on June 14 following which his mother filed a missing complaint at the Sarankul police station. In the complaint, Rabi’s mother alleged that her son was kidnapped over political enmity.

While the cops were clueless till 20 days into the incident, the big breakthrough into the case came when the deceased’s brother caught Balakrushna and handed him over to police.

Balakrushna was arrested on July 4 where he made some startling revelations. As per his statements, he along with his associates had murdered Rabi and set his body on fire inside a forest in Tangi area of Khurda district

Based on the revelations made by Balakrushna, police later seized skeletons of Rabi from the forest and sent them for a DNA test.

It is pertinent to mention that all the accused were also arrested earlier on charges of carrying out an attack on the family of Rabi.
