Sambalpur: Religious fervour has gripped Sambalpur town ahead of the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati which will be solemnised with all Vedic rituals on Sunday.

The preparations for the grand marriage of the deities have almost reached its final leg while the organisers are not leaving any stone upturned for smooth conduct of the yatra.

"As per tradition, the deities of several temples yesterday were invited for the marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati," said president of Jhaduapada Sital Sasthi Committee, Saroj Dalpati.

Elaborate arrangements have also been made by the district administration as thousands of devotees from across the State are expected to throng the city for the grand event tonight.

"As the divine wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati is conducted like a real marriage with people from different families playing the role of parents, it is certainly a delight to be a part of such tradition," Ramakant Sahu, a resident of Bargarh.

Not only Sambalpur, the festival is also celebrated in several other parts of the State including Bolangir and Bhubaneswar. In the capital city also, Lord Lingaraj’s marriage will be solemnized with Goddess Parvati today.
