Sambalpur: Thousands of devotees descended on the streets of Sambalpur to mark the conclusion of the three-day Sital Sasthi Yatra today. The famous carnival came to an end with the Jugal Darshan, the homecoming of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati after marriage.

Devotees in large numbers turned up to witness the return of the divine couple to their respective temples.

An atmosphere of fervour filled the streets of Sambalpur town with people from all walks of life immersing themselves in the festivities. Sounds of conch shells, cymbals, folk dance and most of all colourful fireworks lit up the streets as deities from several temples like that of Bam Barada Balunkeswar Baba, Jhaduapada Loknath Baba, Mudipada Jageswar Baba were ushered back to the temples.

It is believed that a darshan of the newly-married Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati earns virtues of many lifetimes.

Earlier on Sunday night, the marriage of the Lord and the Goddess was held.

"Sital Sasthi is one of the most iconic festivals of Sambalpur and people just revel in this festive period," a local resident, Sampurna Pani said.
