Odisha continues to reel under an intense cold wave, with biting winter conditions prevailing across large parts of the state. Similipal in Mayurbhanj district recorded a chilling 0 degree Celsius while at least 23 towns reported minimum temperatures below 10 degree Celsius, highlighting the severity of the cold spell.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cold wave conditions are likely to persist for another three days.  The sharp drop in temperature has brought varied winter extremes like frost formation in some pockets and dense fog blanketing several regions, severely affecting normal life.

Mercury Plunges To 3 Degree C In Kandhamal

G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district emerged as one of the coldest places in the state, with the mercury plunging to 3 degree Celsius. Kandhamal and adjoining high-altitude areas also witnessed temperatures hovering below 3 degree Celsius, intensifying the chill.

The harsh cold has forced people, particularly in rural and tribal belts, to seek refuge around open fires during early mornings and late evenings. 

For many, the warmth of a bonfire has become the only shield against the relentless winter bite.

With temperatures expected to remain low, authorities have advised people to take adequate precautions, especially the elderly, children and those living in vulnerable conditions, as Odisha braces for a few more days of severe winter.
