Cuttack: Treatment of a sick elephant, found lying today in a crop field near Haladibasanta village under Dalijoda Forest Range in the district, has begun.

“It seems the elephant has developed an abscess in the mouth. Its treatment is underway and we hope it will get well soon,” said a veterinary doctor, Antaryami Khuntia.

Earlier today, locals spotted the elephant lying in a crop field near the village and informed the forest officials who then rushed to the spot along with veterinary doctors.

Acting swiftly over the matter, forest personnel, including the Range Officer, ACF and other veterinary doctors, assessed the condition of the elephant and started treatment.

The elephant is stated to be one of the seven jumbos living in Promod Udyan near Tangi area of the district.

According to the Assistant Conservator of Forests Manoranjan Swain, the elephant had strayed into the nearby human settlements yesterday but the forest officials with the help of locals drove away the animal back to the jungle.
