A sick elephant was found lying in the Daruthenga area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Friday. After locating the elephant inside the Barabari cashew forest, a Forest Department team has begun its treatment.

According to reports, a herd of elephants was passing through the area this morning when one elephant was left behind. Local villagers spotted the ailing animal and immediately informed the Forest Department. Subsequently, the Forest Department officials reached the spot and initiated medical care.

A special wildlife medical team is taking care of the elephant. The earlier movement of the elephant is also being tracked. The Forest Department has also launched an investigation to find the exact reason behind the elephant's ailment.

As per the Forest Department officials, the elephant is expected to be around 20 years of age, and it is suspected to be suffering from old-age-related ailments.

It has been learnt that the sick animal is a 'makhna' elephant. Makhna is a tuskless or very small-tusked male Asian elephant, primarily found in India and Sri Lanka. These elephants are known for their strength and can be aggressive.
