Shame again: Minor girl found pregnant in Kandhamal

Kandhamal:  While the shocking incident of a girl delivering a baby in school hostel is still fresh in memory, another minor girl was found pregnant in Kandhamal district. According to reports, the girl who is studying in class IX was allegedly raped by her uncle when she had visited his house during vacations last year. The minor girl is now six months pregnant and has been admitted to hospital, informed sources.

“As the girl is a minor, we have informed the local police as per the guidelines,” said Doctor Nilipta Nayak.

It is pertinent to mention here that the safety of girl students in several residential schools of Odisha has been under scanner after a class VIII girl student delivered a baby in Kandhamal on January 14. The incident had sparked outrage with locals staging demonstration and demanding action against the guilty.

Later, the Odisha government had ordered a probe and subsequently suspended several officials including three assistant superintendents of the school while dismissing the health worker (ANM) and two matrons.
