Shame again: Another minor schoolgirl found pregnant in Odisha

Kalahandi: Shocking incidents of minor schoolgirls being pregnant continue to rattle Odisha after another minor schoolgirl under Dharamgarh Police limits of Kalahandi district was found pregnant today.

According to sources, the girl was allegedly raped by a married man and a case was registered in Dharamagarh Police Station by the mother of the minor girl. Police have arrested the accused man under the POCSO Act, sources said.

Meanwhile, the minor girl has been shifted to Bolangir hospital for treatment.

Yesterday, a class IX student of a government school in Narla of the same district was reportedly found pregnant. The matter came to light after the girl student fell sick at the school on January 16 and was then shifted to Burla hospital after her condition deteriorated.

Dharamgarh SDPO, SN Satpathy said “During investigation, the girl’s medical examination details, statements and other biological material were collected. The accused has been arrested and arrangements are being made to provide justice and proper care to the minor girl.”

Meanwhile, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in a tweet criticized the Odisha government over the rising incidences of rape among minor girls and pregnancy of school girls in residential ashram schools. He said that such incidents put up a shameful image of the State.

However, no comments were available from BJD over his remarks.
