Bhubaneswar: A two-member team of the Justice MB Shah Commission, which is probing alleged illegal mining in Odisha, will visit the state from May 27 to May 30 to conduct field verification and data analysis of various mines.

Sources said Bangalore Forest Conservator Biswajeet Mishra and geologist A V S Prasad would inspect whether physical verifications of the leased mine areas are being done properly as per the guidelines. Both the senior officials would visit mines at Joda and Koida. As per the schedule, the officials will verify the data obtained by Odisha Remote Sensing Application Centre (ORSAC) on May 30.

Notably, during last visit of the Commission several lessees had raised question on the authenticity of the Differential Geographical Positioning System (DGPS), which was used for demarcation of mining lease boundaries in the state. The mine lease holders also demanded physical verification of mines again.

Accordingly, the Shah Commission during its hearing in February this year directed the state government to do physical verification of 44 leasehold areas, said official sources.
