Severe frost conditions have gripped Koida in Odisha’s Sundargarh district for the second consecutive day, following a sustained drop in night temperatures to below 5 degrees Celsius. The prolonged cold spell has led to dew freezing into ice during night hours, affecting normal life across the region.

Frost Blankets Koida Region

Residents reported that large parts of Koida appeared covered in a white frost layer, with ice accumulation visible on open grounds, rooftops and parked vehicles during the early morning hours. The intensity of the frost highlighted the severity of the ongoing cold spell, which is unusual for the area.

New Garden Colony Records Highest Frost

Among the affected areas, New Garden Colony witnessed the highest frost intensity. Similar conditions were reported from Koida town, Kalta, Malda and Tensa, indicating that the frost was widespread across the Koida block.

Several vehicles parked in open spaces were found coated with a thin but distinct layer of ice, underscoring the sharp fall in night-time temperatures.

Cold Disrupts Daily Life

The persistent cold has disrupted daily routines over the past three days, with residents experiencing increased discomfort, particularly during early morning hours. Commuting, school drop-offs and other outdoor activities have become challenging due to the biting cold.

A local resident said, “The cold has been intense, especially in the mornings. It has affected our daily activities, but at the same time, many are fascinated by the frost, which we rarely see here.”

No Damage Reported

While no damage to property or loss of life has been reported so far, the continued low temperatures have raised concerns among people engaged in outdoor work. Authorities and locals have advised residents to take necessary precautions, especially during early morning and late-night hours, as the cold spell continues.
