Temperatures continued to fall across Odisha with a severe cold wave affecting normal life in multiple districts over the past few days. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) analysts have assessed that the cold conditions are expected to increase further from tomorrow and may continue till December 12.
Local reports indicate that evenings are turning unusually quiet with markets, roads and public spaces witnessing sparse movement as residents return indoors soon after sunset.
IMD Outlook Points To Further Dip
According to IMD reports, the cold wave pattern is likely to persist for the next few days under prevailing conditions. The assessment states that the impact of winter will remain significant until December 12.
From December 13, temperatures may begin to rise gradually due to the influence of western disturbances, although specific district-wise forecasts remain under observation.
Minimum Temperature Below 5°C in Kandhamal
In the higher altitude regions, the drop in temperature has been more pronounced. Kandhamal district reported one of the lowest readings, with G. Udayagiri recording a minimum temperature below 5 degrees Celsius.
Early morning measurements have shown similarly low readings in other regions. At around 5:30 am today, Jharsuguda registered a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius, according to field observations.
Fog, Visibility Issues In Several Pockets
Sources also reported that intense foggy conditions have prevailed for at least the past seven days in areas such as Binika, Rampur and Dunguripali in Subarnapur district.
