Series Of Loots Leaves Balasore Police On Its Toes

Balasore: Robberies and a loot bid from as many as three different places in the same night in Balasore have left the district police on its toes.

According to reports, some unidentified miscreants looted gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 10 lakh from Sanjana Jewellery by breaking open the shutter of the shop at Haladipala market under Basta Police station limits last night.

"We came to know about the loot only this morning. The robbers used gas cutter to cut the shutter. They also tried to break the backside wall and later decamped with 12 kgs of silver and 500 grams of gold," alleged shop owner, Prashant Kumar Kamila.

The miscreants also tried to rob the ATM of the Indicash bank situated near the jewellery shop. However, they failed in their attempt to loot the money from the vending machine due to some unknown reason.

After getting information about the incidents, Basta Police along with a team of forensic experts rushed to the site and started an investigation with the help of a sniffer dog.

In another incident, some miscreants decamped with cash of Rs 5000, computer and some vital documents from the society office in the premises of Nijampur Panchyat building under Remuna block of the district yesterday.

The series of loots have created panic among the locals while intellectuals have raised eyebrows over the law and order situation in the locality. Earlier, some miscreants had looted Rs 40 lakh from a bank in the same area on July 11.

"It has become very difficult to run a business here as the number of loot incidents is increasing with the passing of each day. The police station is so far and as there is no patrolling in this area, anti-socials are rampantly carrying out loots without any fear," alleged Sanjay Kumar Pati, a local resident.

Meanwhile, Basta SDPO, Ranjit Prusti has assured action against the accused. "We have sent an investigating officer to probe the loot incidents. A scientific team from Balasore also has been called in to help in the investigation. Case will be lodged and action will be taken as per the fact finding report," he informed.
