Koraput: A senior clerk of Berhampur University was arrested here on charges of running a racket involved in increasing the marks of students by taking bribes, police said today.
 
Accused Shankar Majhi, who was arrested by Malkangigi police yesterday, allegedly had agents in Malkangiri district and used to collect money from students appearing in final year degree examination, police said.
 
Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Akhileswar Singh said during investigation two persons from Malkangiri were detained who confessed to their involvement in the racket and also identified Majhi.
 
"They used to charge Rs 10,000 for one paper. While the agents took Rs 5,000, the rest went to Majhi, who used to increase the marks during tabulation," the SP said adding "they have increased the marks of at least 23 students of Malkangiri district this year." 
 
Police said Majhi will be taken to Malkangiri. "More details about the racket will be known once we interrogate Majhi," the SP said.
