Security to be tightened at cinema halls in Twin City
Bhubaneswar: A day after three girls were brutally thrashed by a youth in public view outside a cinema hall in the capital city, Commissionerate Police has now decided to beef up security in and around various movie theatres in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
Though the accused who assaulted the girls, Sujan Das was arrested today, the incident has raised concerns among the denizens of the capital city as earlier last week a journalist was also brutally thrashed by youths inside a cinema hall at Acharya Vihar.
According to reports, Das had attacked the three girls with his belt outside a cinema hall near Kharavela Nagar at around 9 PM yesterday. DCP Anup Sahoo on the other hand informed that a girl had picked up a quarrel with the youth at the parking area of a particular cinema hall yesterday. Later, the youth attacked the girl and her friends following which a case was subsequently registered based on the complaint.
“As there was a similar incident in another cinema hall, we have decided to review such cases and at the same time discuss the issue of internal security with all cinema hall owners,” said Sahoo.
Sahoo further stated that emphasis will be laid on sensitising cinema hall owners to strengthen security arrangements, deployment of private security guards and installation of adequate CCTV cameras.
“The incident occurred outside the cinema hall and while returning they were attacked by a youth. As a lot of people mostly girls and others visit cinema halls, we have deployed private security guards,” said Bhanja Deo, owner of Keshari Talkies.
Deo further alleged that rowdy elements are creating nuisance due to inaction on the part of authorities and urged the Commissionerate Police to intensify patrolling near cinema halls which will help prevent hooliganism and other violence.
Earlier, the DGP had directed Commissionerate Police to assess the security measures at cinema halls for safety of the viewers, including women and college girls after a journalist, identified as Kapilendra Pradhan was attacked by some youths last week. Pradhan was trashed for opposing some youths who were passing lewd remarks at some girls inside a cinema hall last week.
