Phulbani: Kandhamal police has stepped up security across the district on the occasion of the 11th death anniversary of Hindu spiritual leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and celebration of Janmashtami today.

Special arrangements have been made at Chakapad Gurukul Sanskrit ashram school and Jalespata in the district for the death anniversary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader who was killed on the premises of the Jalespata ashram in 2008.

Two DSP rank officers and two platoons of police force have been deployed in Chakapad and Jaleshpata to maintain law and order during the observance of the monk's death anniversary.

“Adequate security arrangements have been ensured for smooth observance of Swami Laxmanananda Ji's death anniversary and Janmashtami in the district. Frequent patrolling will be done at all the sensitive locations. Besides, we have made special arrangements at Jaleshpata and Chakapad. Additional SP along with a DSP and two platoons of police force has been deployed in view of the occasion," informed Kandhamal Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh.

Combing operation and checking also have been intensified at different susceptible areas of the district to prevent any untoward incident during the occasion, police sources said.

Special functions like Kalasa yatra followed by pujas like Gopujana and Surjya puja have been completed. Programme for floral tributes will be held in honour of the Swami ji between 11 am and 1 pm," informed Swami Jibanamukta Nandaji, Manager of Jaleshpata ashram.

Likewise, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad is also organising a district-level program at Gandhi Smruti Bhawan in Phulbani to pay tributes to the departed spiritual leader.
