Berhampur: With the announcement of dates for college campus polls in Odisha, Berhampur police have geared up to tighten security on campuses.

"I have called a meeting of heads of institutions on September 27 to discus security measures on campuses. Security measures will be taken according to requirements of campuses," Berhampur Superintendent of Police Anirudha Singh said.

The poll process will begin on September 28 with formal notification for the October 8 elections. Filling of nomination papers will be held on September 30. The candidates can withdraw nominations on October 1 after which the final list of the candidates will be announced by respective institutes. The winners will take oath on October 9.

"We will make all necessary arrangements in consultation with institution heads to ensure trouble-free elections," the SP said. The security details will be worked out before the start of the election process, he added.

The SP held discussions with Berhampur Univeristy vice-chancellor Deepak Kumar Behera and principal of Khallikote Autonomous College Saritanjali Bahidar in this regard two days ago.

"I suggested them to strictly prohibit entry of non-students into the campus," Singh said. He assured to set up a police beat near Khallikote Autonomous College here.

Patrolling will also be intensified in Bhanja Vihar.

Berhampur University authorities have decided to intensify night patrolling on the campus by engaging teachers, warden and superintendents of different hostels.

"They will patrol in a phased manner. No student would be allowed into the campus without the identity card after 8.30 pm," the VC said.
