Berhampur: Tasting the success by eliminating the deputy of Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda security forces on third day have intensified search operations in the bordering forest area of Ganjam and Gajapati districts.

According to a senior police official, personnel of Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) 127 battalion have been inducted with Special Operations Group (SOG), District Volunteer Force (DVF) and local police to step up the anti-Maoist operation.

Police suspect members of Sabyasachi Panda's Odisha Maoist Party (OMP), of which slain Pradeep Majhi is the second in command, are hiding inside the dense jungle.

The latest blow was inflicted on Panda's group with the killing of Pradeep Majhi alias Gobind in an encounter with police on Monday.

Meanwhile terming the killing of Pradeep as ‘fake encounter’, Panda has called for a state-wide bandh on Thursday. The Maoist leader has also rejected the surrender proposal of DGP Prakash Mishra.
