Security beefed up for Ghasi

As there is always threat from the ultras when a top leader of them is arrested, security arrangements in the district have been tightened.

“There are always the chances of backlash when a top leader of the Maoists is arrested. So we have stepped up all kind of security measures to counter any kind of threats” said South-Western DIG of police Soumendra Priyadarshi.

Ghasi, who is currently under five-days police remand, is said to be the mastermind of the attacks on R. Udaygiri police station and Jail in 2006. The Maoists then had released 40 prisoners and looted weapons after tying the police officials. They too had abducted the police officer Ranjan Mallik.  

On March 24, 2006, around 500 armed Maoists had entered the R. Udaygiri town of Gajapati district shouting slogans in favour of the CPI (Maoist). After attacking the police station and jail they had looted several weapons and killed three police officials during the attack which was planned and lead by Ghasi
