Bhubaneswar: The office of the State Election Commission (SEC), here on Friday received a a parcel containing a detonator along with a warning from an unidentified person/body, police said.

"We have received a parcel containing some hard substance along with a warning letter. The letter warned that they would cause explosion if the government did not improve the hospital at Kankadahada in Dhenkanal district," State Election Commissioner Ajit Kumar Tripathy told reporters.

As the incident was reported to the police, a bomb disposal squad immediately rushed the SEC office and seized the material. The "hard substance" in the parcel was a detonator, police said.

Though the SEC did not feel immediate danger to its office, Tripathy said that he had already sought security from the police. The SEC is responsible for conducting the panchayat and urban municipal body elections in the state.
