Bhubaneswar: State Election Commission (SEC) Ajit Kumar Tripathy on Friday asked the Odisha government to inform it about the probable dates for elections in 25 urban local bodies (ULBs) in nine Western districts where nominations could not be made due to agitation by lawyers.

In a letter to chief secretary JK Mohapatra, Tripathy informed to government to recommend names of officials who would be appointed as the administrators in the ULBs whose tenures expires on September 30.

The election process for the ULB polls scheduled for September 19 could not be completed in Western Odisha due to an indefinite strike by the Central Action Committee of lawyers.

All political parties including the ruling BJD also boycoted the elections in support of the lawyers demand of establishment of a permanent Bench of the Orissa High Court in the region.
