School teacher held for extra-marital affairs
Jajpur: A school teacher in Odisha's Jajpur district was arrested today on charge of beating and torturing his wife.
Tapan Kumar Pradhan (35) of Krushnanagar High School at Gamu under Barchana area, was absconding since August 20, Inspector In-Charge of Barchana police station (IIC) Ranjit Kumar Sahu said.
Based on a complaint filed by his wife Itishree Pradhan police arrested the teacher and forwarded him to the court which remanded him in judicial custody rejecting his bail plea, he said.
Itishree had alleged that her husband was torturing her and their six-year-old daughter for last two years. She had filed a complaint against him before the District Education Officer (DEO) on August 20 in this connection.
While she was going to her parental home along with her brother on a motorbike that day, Tapan had allegedly intercepted the motorbike at Chandikhle bazaar, dragged her out and thrashed her in public view. He also allegedly did not spare her brother, police said.
Quoting the FIR, police said the couple are married for seven years and have a six-year-old daughter. Five years their after marriage, the accused teacher allegedly developed illicit relationship with another woman employee of his earlier school in Kalinga Nagar and on being protested, Tapan tortured his wife.
"The couple is not in good terms with each other for the past two years after Tapan developed the relationship with another woman and Itishree was staying in her parent's house," Sahu said.
"Though the FIR was lodged on August 20, Tapan went missing soon after," Sahu said adding the arrest was made after constant efforts.
