Puri/Jajpur: At least one person was killed while 10 others sustained critical injuries in separate road accidents in Jajpur and Puri districts of Odisha today.

According to sources, a woman was killed and five others received grievous injuries after the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in lost its balance and fell into a drain on the NH near Jagannath Road linking Puri-Satapada.

The rickshaw carrying school staff was heading towards Brahmagiri. The victims were immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital, informed sources. Though the identity of the deceased woman is yet to be ascertained, sources said she was a teacher.

In another mishap, as many as five passengers sustained injuries after the bus in which they were travelling rammed into a truck from behind at Kadei square near Badachana of Jajpur district today.

The mishap occurred when the private bus en route to Cuttack from Ranchi, hit the tomato-laden truck near the Kadei Chhak and overturned.

Soon, locals rushed to the spot to rescue the passengers. All the injured have been admitted to the local community health centre, informed sources.

As per latest reports, a woman who received critical injuries in the accident has been shifted to SCB medical in Cuttack.
