Cuttack: A student of SCB Medical College in Cuttack bagged the second position in the prestigious All India Civil Services examination. V Sriram, a native of Kerala, who is pursuing Post Graduation degree in general medicine at Odisha’s premier medical institute, has been preparing for the top UPSC examination in Trivandrum for the last few days.

On being informed about his result, an ecstatic V Sriram said he was 'overwhelmed'.

“All my colleagues especially my teammates and teachers of SCB have a big role in my success. One cannot achieve such a position alone” Sriram told OTV.

Speaking about Odisha, he said, “I have many friends here. I don’t want to leave Odisha but no way. However, unwillingly I have to go for service”.

He had appeared for the UPSC examination last year but did not clear it. This time, he had done well both in the written examination and interview.

Sriram, who hails from Kochi, did his schooling at the Bhavan's Girinagar, passing out in 2004 and graduating in the Trivandrum Medical College in 2010.

Asked about the reaction of his parents, he said they were 'shocked'. "Nobody expected a second rank," he said.

Similarly, 12 others from the State successfully cracked the top examination.
