Bhubaneswar/New Delhi:  The Supreme Court will deliver its verdict today on a petition against the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) on Bauxite mining in Nayamgiri hills of Kalahandi district.

Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) filed a suit in 2011 after the MoEF withdrew a stage-II forest clearance for mining bauxite from Niyamgiri in August 2010.

 

The verdict is carrying significance following the closure of Vedanta group’s 1 MTPA Lanjigarh alumina refinery on Wednesday. The company, in September had given a closure notice to the state government citing paucity of bauxite.
