Angul: The scheduled caste of Odisha is lagging behind in terms of development as compared to the total population of the State, said Yogendra Paswan, member of National Commission for Scheduled Castes on Thursday.

"The scheduled caste forms 16.5% of the total population in the state and their development should be carried out as per the population ratio. But sadly the same is not being done. The government should take steps to improve the situation of SC community and bring them at par with the total population of the State," said Paswan on the sidelines of his visit to Angul.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes member alleged that the State government is creating hurdles in the progress of the Scheduled Castes. "People of the SC community are often being victimised and subjected to various crimes and the government needs to nab and punish the criminals involved in such incidents," he added.
