Sashakt campaign for Dibyangs concludes in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: With an aim to promote greater inclusion and empowerment of dibyangs (people with disabilities), the valedictory session of the first phase of ‘Sashakt’ campaign was held at the Railway Auditorium in Bhubaneswar today.
The campaign initiated by Bhubaneswar-based philanthropic organisation ‘Swabhiman,’ emphasized on greater awareness about the laws and existing government facilities for the differently-abled people in Odisha.
The ‘Sashakt Doot’ awareness vehicle of the campaign was flagged off on May 9 from Puri with a message of empowerment of differently-abled people in the State. After travelling over 4100 kms covering all 30 districts of the State the vehicle reached the capital city on June 13. Public meetings were conducted in 62 blocks and 30 district headquarters of Odisha as a part of the event, informed sources. The volunteers reached out to more than 5,000 people during this campaign.
In the valedictory session, issues pertaining to specific districts were taken up for discussions. NGO partners also shared the impact of the campaign and informed about their plans for the upcoming phases of the campaign.
“Through the campaign we are contributing to the legacy of Odisha State Disability Network (OSDN) to bridge the gap for social inclusion of differently-abled people. We have made an attempt to initiate a unique partnership between NGOs, government, PWDs and various agencies,” said Sruti Mohapatra of ‘Swabhiman.’
“The campaign showed the way to come together, get more involved and become more responsive by embracing people with disabilities, changing outlooks and supporting policy changes that affect them,” she added.
