Urban transport in Sambalpur is set to become more robust and eco-friendly with the launch of electric bus services by Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi. The Chief Minister on Saturday inaugurated 25 new e-bus services in the city and announced that an additional 25 electric buses will be introduced by the end of the month, taking the total number to 50.
Furthermore, to ensure smooth and organised operations of the new fleet, a state-of-the-art bus terminal constructed at Ainthapali was also inaugurated. The terminal is expected to play a key role in managing bus services efficiently and improving the overall commuting experience for passengers.
Long-Term Investment in Transport Infrastructure
The Chief Minister announced that an amount of Rs 238 crore and 14 lakh has been earmarked for the maintenance and upkeep of both the bus terminal and the e-buses for the next 10 years. This long-term investment aims to ensure uninterrupted and quality transport services in the city.
Focus on Safety, Accessibility and Digital Payments
Special emphasis has been laid on passenger safety and inclusivity. The e-buses are equipped with wheelchair facilities for differently-abled passengers, and additional safety measures have been put in place. The Odisha CM also said that commuters will receive concessions on digital payments, encouraging cashless travel.
More Development Projects Ahead
During his two-day visit to Sambalpur, CM Majhi is scheduled to inaugurate a new OPD building and a trauma care centre at the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital.
With cleaner transport, modern facilities and inclusive planning, the initiative is expected to significantly improve mobility and quality of life for Sambalpur residents.
