The alleged sweeper job recruitment scam in Sambalpur is getting deeper with each revelation. The fraud has now spread from Sambalpur to Sonepur, with several women from Ulunda in Subarnapur district also falling victim to the racket.

On Saturday, some of the cheated women reached Ulunda Police Station, bringing along an agent involved in the scam to file a formal complaint. They have demanded the return of lakhs of rupees they had paid in the hope of getting government jobs.

They alleged that the agent collected huge sums of money from them with false promises of securing government jobs.

Meanwhile, police have arrested the alleged masterminds, Padmavati and Rahul Ray, who are now in police custody. The duo reportedly duped people of nearly Rs 62 lakh, assuring them of government recruitment in sweeper posts.

Authorities have intensified their probe to identify other agents and victims linked to the network. The scam has triggered outrage across western Odisha, once again exposing how unemployed youth and women are being exploited by fraudulent job rackets.
