Sambalpur hosts 30th National Road Cycling Championship 2025

Sambalpur is hosting the 30th National Road Cycling Championship 2025, which commenced on 2 December and will continue until 6 December. Organised by the Odisha Cycling Association under the aegis of the Cycling Federation of India, this is the first time western Odisha has been chosen as the venue for the prestigious national event.

Over 1,000 Cyclists From Across India Participate

More than 1,000 cyclists from 30 states and Union Territories have arrived in Sambalpur to compete, including nearly 400 women participants. The championship features races across senior, junior and sub-junior divisions, with distances ranging from 40–45 km in the early rounds to around 60 km in the final stages—testing speed, endurance and tactical skill.

Selection Pathway To Asian Games

Top performers at the championship will qualify to represent India in the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. Officials say the event serves as a crucial platform for national-level cyclists to showcase their abilities and gain international exposure.

Historic And Consecutive Hosting

Cycling has been part of India’s sporting ecosystem since the 1970 National Games. After being included in last year’s 2024 championship, the sport continues its consecutive presence this year, underscoring Odisha’s growing prominence in the national cycling circuit.

Officials added that hosting the event in Sambalpur is expected to boost the sport’s popularity in the region while giving local spectators their first opportunity to witness high-intensity national road cycling. With elite athletes, competitive racing, and high stakes, the championship is poised to be a landmark event in India’s cycling calendar.
