Saha Commission coming tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The eight member Justice M B Shah Commission appointed by the Centre to probe into irregularities in the mining sector in several states including Odisha would arrive in the state capital tomorrow on a week-long state visit. The members would visit several mines in Joda and Koida of Keonjhar district on December 8 and December 9.

In the wake of the visit of the Shah Commission the chief secretary Bijoy Pattanaik has directed the officials of the steel and mining and industries department to prepare the answers to all the queries of the commission. The district collectors of Keonjhar and Sundergarh, the deputy directors of the mining department posted at Joda and Koida too have been asked to prepare notes and meet all the demands of the commission. The mining department has already prepared a status report on the mining activities of 57 iron ore and manganese out of a total of 126 companies. The department too has prepared an action taken report on the steps initiated by the government to control illegal activities by the mining companies. The state vigilance department has already submitted its report on the mining scam in the state.
