Bhubaneswar: In a major blow to Sabyasachi Panda’s Odisha Maovadi Party (OMP), security personnel on Monday killed hardcore cadre Pradeep alias Gobind Majhi in a fierce encounter in Karanjaguda forest under Mohana PS of Gajapati district. Majhi was the military-in-charge and second-in-command of OMP, police said.
 
"During a combing operation of Gajapati and Ganjam police, Sabyasachi Panda's aide Gobind Majhi has been killed in encounter and police have seized one Italian made pistol, two fully loaded magazines, one SBML gun and one kit bag from his possession,” DGP Prakash Mishra told media persons here.
 
Giving details about Majhi, Mishra said that earlier he was associated with hardcore Maoist Uday and top Maoist leader Azad and sometime ago he joined Panda.  
 
“Majihi was involved in killing of two village guards in Kandhamal district and he has 46 cases pending against him” Mishra stated. 
 
Without divulging much detail about the ongoing operation the top cop said, “We still believe Panda is hiding in the jungle and our operations are on.”
 
Security personnel have also seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the area during the operation. 
 
As per police record, deceased Majhi, a native of Karadapadara village was involved in a series of violence including R.Udayagiri and Nayagarh attack, Laxmananand killing and Italian kidnapping. 
 
Meanwhile Mili Panda, wife of Sabaysachi Panda has condemned the latest exercise of the police. “It’s a conspiracy of the government and the latest move is part of ‘Operation Sabyasachi’ to wipe out Panda. I believe the operation will claim many innocent lives.”
 
On November 13 last year, five Maoists loyal to Sabyasachi Panda were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in Bhaliagada jungle under Mohana police station area.
