Puri: Two Russian nationals were detained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials today for flying a drone equipped with high definition cameras over the Sun Temple at Konark. According to sources, the foreign nationals were immediately detained after the ASI officials spotted them flying a drone over the Sun Temple premises.

Later, the duo was released after the authorities deleted the video footage recorded by the drone camera and verified their identity proofs.

However, the incident once again raised concerns as recording videos through drones near several historical as well as other protected monuments has now emerged as a major headache for the law enforcing agencies owing to several security risks.

Earlier in October, eight crew members of one Lintas India Pvt Ltd were detained by Singhadwar police station for flying a drone camera over Puri Srimandir. The team was reportedly flying drone from atop Emar Mutt.
