RSP set to complete its modernisation programme

Giving momentum to the expansion work, RSP also made the Coke dry cooling plant (CDCP), Coal Handling Plant as well as Coal Chemicals unit operational concurrently two days ago, a senior RSP official said today, adding, the total investment in this complex is around Rs 1,400 crore.

Describing the commencement of coke pushing from the new battery as a major achievement in RSP's modernisation, SAIL Chairman C S Verma has said that with the start-up of this new battery, the Maharatna steel major has reaffirmed its commitment to environment friendly coke making.

Stating that the new Coke Ovens Battery No. 11 was also made operational at IISCO Steel Plant (ISP), Burnpur in February, Verma said SAIL launched it through adoption of CDCP and other pollution abatement systems.

Referring to the ambitious expansion work which is under way in full steam at RSP, a senior plant official said already two more units have entered into fully functional stage, thus adding more capacity for the steel major.

RSP is all set to double its capacity from the current level of 2 MT to 4.5 MTPA (Million tonnes per annum) of Hot Metal on completion of on-going modernisation and expansion with commensurate increase in crude steel and saleable steel capacity, he said.

In addition, this is a major milestone towards integrated commissioning of RSP modernisation wherein the new 4060 m3 Blast Furnace, largest in India, is also expected to be commissioned within one month, he said.
