Rourkela: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Maharatna Company SAIL, has registered the best ever crude steel as well as saleable steel production in the first eleven months of the fiscal 2011-12.

During the said period the Steel Plant made 1.97 MT (Million Tonne) of Crude Steel and 1.87 MT of Saleable Steel thereby achieving 113.3 per cent and 122.8 per cent of capacity utilization. The Plant also made 2.09 MT of Hot Metal by utilizing 114.6 per cent of capacity.

During the first 11 months of the current fiscal, RSP produced 7,43,297 Tonnes of HR Coil for Sale and 3,03,333 Tonnes of HR Plates which a re again the best since inception.

The significant success of RSP in February 2012 helped substantially in firming up the first eleven month performance, RSP sources said today.

In February RSP produced 2.89 lakh tonnes of Sinter, 1.95 lakh tonnes of Hot Metal, 1.84 lakh tonnes of Crude Steel and 1.81 lakh tonnes of Saleable Steel, which are the best February production figures since inception, they said.

Another highlight of the month was making of several new records. On February 12 the Blast furnaces made record 7421 tonnes of Hot Metal, while the Steel Melting Shop matched the pace by clocking its best production figure of 6396 tonnes of Crude Steel for any single day through 42 blows and 42 casts. This pushed the total Crude Steel production to 7441 tonnes on the same day, again a new record for a single day.

In key techno-economics parameters also the Plants performance was equally impressive. During February the Steel Plant recorded Coke Rate of 522 kg per ton of Hot Metal, average Blast Furnace productivity of 1.547 ton per metre cube per day and Specific Energy Consumption of 6.746 Giga Calorie per Ton of Crude Steel, which are the best ever figures for any month since inception.
