Bhubaneswar: Continuing its pre-poll sop extravagance, the State government on Monday declared to sanction agriculture loan to the tune of Rs 6,000 crore for the khariff and rabi crops.
 
The farmers across the state can avail the loan facility at an interest rate of 2 per cent, according to officials.
 
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who chaired a review meeting in this regard also directed the State Co-operation department to create awareness among the farmers to maximize the number of agri loan beneficiaries.
 
It was also decided in the meeting to setup paddy procurement centres at panchayat level through regulated market committees (RMCs) where the yield recorded substantial increase from the last season.
 
The State government in a bid to facilitate core banking, will also link branches of State and Central Co-operative Banks with their respective banks.
 
Last year the State government had sanctioned Rs 5,150 core agriculture loan at 5 per cent interest rate.
