Berhampur: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday seized Rs 27 lakh in cash from the possession of an assistance engineer of the drainage sub-division at Digapahandi in Ganjam district, official sources said.
 
When the sleuths raided the house of house of assistant engineer Suresh Chandra Patra yesterday, his wife handed over the cash in a box to a neighbour, Satyabrata Panda.
 
"During interrogation both the women (wives of Patra and Panda) confessed about the handing over the cash box to hide the cash kept at Patra's house," said SP (Vigilance) JN Hansdah.
 
The vigilance men claimed to have detected disproportionate assets worth over Rs 1.95 crore during the raids of the house of the assistant engineer.
 
The details of deposits in bank and other financial institutes were under verification, SP said.
