Rs 19 Lakh Seized By Flying Squad Ahead Of Bijepur Bypoll

Bijepur: Ahead of the much-awaited Bijepur byelection, Rs 19 lakh was seized from a car by the election commission flying squad in Barpali area in Bargarh district on Thursday night.

Barpali BDO who is currently the magistrate in-charge and the election flying squad seized the cash from a car belonging to a businessman of Bagbahra area of Chhattisgarh during vehicle checking yesterday.

Following the seizure of the cash, the businessman identified as Parag Agrawal, was taken to the police station where he was questioned about the sources of the cash and where it was being transported. However, the police did not find any evidence about his links with any political party and later released him.

The recovery of the cash has raised suspicion over free and fair election. Senior police officials informed that the matter has been informed to the Income Tax department for further probe.
