Bhubaneswar: International Rower Pratima Puhan was today selected to receive the prestigious 19th Ekalabya Award for 2011 for outstanding performances in different events. Instituted by Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), the charitable wing of IMFA Group - India`s leading integrated Ferro Alloys Producer, the award carries Rs 1.5 lakh cash and a citation.

Besides Puhan, two other sports persons - rower Pramila Prava Minz and footballer Sasmita Mallik - would receive the runners up prizes for remarkable performances in various International and National level championships. Both would receive a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each along with citations at the award function to be held shortly. The award is given to young sports persons of Odisha every year in recognition of his/her outstanding performance in the preceding two years.

Puhan has a brilliant international and national track record for the past two years. She made history by becoming the first woman rower of the country to win medal in Asian Games. Her other achievements included three gold and one silver medals in 500m and 1000m coxless pair, 500m and 1000m coxless four events of the 34th?National Games at Dhanbad.

Announcing the names of award winners, Lok Sabha MP and Trustee of IMPaCt, Baijayant Panda said: IMPaCT has been in continuous pursuit to recognise and foster excellence in sports and literature besides contributing to the general welfare of the society at large.
