Rourkela: In an unfortunate incident, a student of the Rourkela Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) died after he fell off a running train Wednesday night while returning home from Bhubaneswar. The deceased has been identified as Bhaskar Sahu.

Reportedly, Sahu along with 36 other students of the ITI were engaged in restoration work for power supply in the capital city of Bhubaneswar. Post completion of the restoration work, the student was heading back to Rourkela when accidentally he slipped off the train and died.

Meanwhile, demanding ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh for Sahu's kin, students of Rourkela Government ITI have staged a dharna outside the college. This apart, they have demanded government service to a family member of Sahu.

College Principal-Incharge Rabindra Kumar Mallick said that the ITI has been closed for the day in memory of Bhaskar Sahu. He also informed that a compensation cheque of Rs 5 lakh has been provided to the family members of the deceased in the initial phase.

"We will ensure that the student's family gets financial assistance. We had written to our Director who has sanctioned Rs 5 lakh in the first phase. Another Rs 5 lakh would be provided in the second phase. Plus, if government has any provision to provide job to a member of his family, we are making efforts in this regard as well."
