At least four people sustained critical injuries when a state-run OSRTC bus collided with a speeding truck on National Highway 149 near Rangathali under Parjang police limits in Dhenkanal district early Saturday morning.
Reports added that the collision resulted in severe damage to both vehicles and disruption of traffic along the busy corridor.
OSRTC Bus Collides With Truck On NH-149
Sources stated that the OSRTC bus was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela when it collided head-on with an oncoming truck near Rangathali. The impact was intense enough to completely crush the front portions of both vehicles.
The bus was carrying several passengers at the time of the accident, and at least three of them sustained serious injuries, along with the driver of the truck.
Local residents and commuters rushed to the scene immediately after the crash to assist in the rescue efforts. Fire service personnel and Parjang police arrived shortly afterward, using mechanical tools to extract the injured from the damaged vehicles. The victims were taken to nearby hospitals for emergency medical care.
Visuals from the site showed debris scattered across the highway, with the OSRTC bus’s windshield and driver’s cabin extensively damaged. The truck’s front section was almost completely destroyed under the impact. Police said the vehicles were later removed from the road to restore the flow of traffic on the national highway.

Another Collision On NH-520 Near Keonjhar
In a separate incident, one person was seriously injured in a collision between a trailer and a highway truck on National Highway 520 near Kalapahad under Joda police limits in Keonjhar district late Friday night.
Eyewitnesses reported that both vehicles were travelling at high speed when they crashed head-on. The driver of the highway vehicle was trapped inside the mangled cabin and had to be cut free by the Fire Department using hydraulic equipment. He was subsequently rushed to Joda Hospital for treatment.
The front sections of both vehicles were completely destroyed, and traffic movement along the route was disrupted for several hours. Police from Joda station, along with Fire Services personnel, cleared the wreckage in the early hours of Friday.
As of the last reports, investigations have been initiated in both districts to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accidents. No comments could be received from the police and concerned authorities in both incidents.
