Bhubaneswar: Taking one step ahead to reduce road accidents in the State by making people inculcate fundamentals of road safety and traffic regulations early on, Odisha government today announced to include a subject on road safety in the syllabi of Class 10 students from the next academic session.

A decision in this regard was taken during a review meeting on road safety in the capital city today which was chaired by State Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera.

The Department of School and Mass Education will take a call on the outline of the syllabus, informed Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda.

“The Mass Education department has the complete authority to embed the course of Road safety in the class-10 syllabus. The main focus of this meeting was to reduce the number of road accidents substantially in Odisha,” added Panda.

Besides this, other important road safety measures like installation of CCTV cameras on the entire stretch of Rameswar in Khurda to Chandikhol under the Integrated Highway Management System was also discussed in the meeting, informed Panda.
