A Hyva truck rammed into a car from the rear at Power House Square in Bhubaneswar and dragged it nearly 20 metres with the driver trapped inside. The accident occurred when the car was standing near the traffic post, waiting for the signal to turn green.

According to preliminary information, the car was stationary when the Hyva truck, approaching from behind, crashed into it with force. The impact pushed the car forward, and the truck continued to drag it across the junction for around 20 metres before coming to a halt.

Sources reported that the car suffered severe damage and was left mangled after the collision. Despite the intensity of the crash, the driver and owner of the car escaped without physical injuries.

The accident, however, caused momentary chaos at the busy junction, with traffic movement disrupted and local residents gathering at the spot soon after the incident.

Car Owner Recounts Moments Of Terror

The car driver described the incident as a near-death experience. “I was waiting for the traffic signal and had just turned the ignition on when this truck came out of nowhere and began dragging me,” he said.

Recalling the moments inside the car, he added, “I closed my eyes and was certain that this was it. Later, when I opened my eyes, I realised I had been flung this far. I had accepted that I had died.”

Eyewitnesses said the car was visibly dragged along the road surface, leaving marks near the traffic post area.

Hyva Driver Cites Fatigue

Reports stated that the Hyva truck driver told police and locals that exhaustion may have led to the accident. He reportedly stated that he had been driving through the night without adequate rest and failed to realise that the vehicle ahead was stationary at a red signal.

Police said the driver’s statement is being examined as part of the inquiry, and the vehicle has been detained for inspection.

As of the last reports, police stated that further action will be taken after examination of CCTV footage from the junction and technical inspection reports of the vehicles involved.
