Sundergarh: Senior BJD leaders, Pranab Prakash Das and Prashanta Nanda, faced the ire of party activists during a meeting in Sundergarh and had to leave the meeting venue midway amid tension.
According to sources, the two senior leaders were in Sundergarh today after resentment surfaced among party workers over discussions that plans are being made to rope in Jogesh Singh, who was recently suspended from the Congress party.
The meeting called by the two leaders to cajole the workers turned ugly when the activists locked the meeting room forcing Das and Nanda to leave the place. As per reports, local BJD activists vehemently opposed a proposal to bring Singh into party fold. Sensing tension, the two BJD leaders left the meeting place suddenly. However, both Das and Nanda refrained from commenting on the matter.
On the other hand, the agitating BJD activists stated they have been opposing Singh as he has not done anything for the Sundergarh constituency during his tenure as a Congress legislator.
“We oppose Singh’s joining in BJD and therefore, we protested the move,” said Krushna Chandra Panda, a BJD worker.
Toeing on similar lines another local leader of BJD, Kusuma Tete said, “Jogesh was MLA of the Sundergarh constituency for 10 years, but he has not done anything. Therefore, we opposed his planned inclusion in BJD.”
Talks are doing rounds that Singh, who was suspended from the Congress for his alleged anti-party activities last month, may join BJD.
