Bhubaneswar: Odisha`s Panchayati Raj minister Prafulla Samal on Tuesday announced in the Assembly that the State would complete its BPL list survey after the Centre issues fresh guidelines.

“The state has sent the Action plan to the Centre and the centre has assured the state that it will provide the fresh guidelines by the month of June.” the Minister said while replying to the questions posed by MLAs in the Assembly.

He also stated that state government is yet to release the new BPL list as the delay has been made by the Centre.

MLAs across the party lines pointed out that the number of poor families in the state has increased in last 14 years and how those who hold job cards, still have no BPL cards.

The minister held the Centre responsible for not providing guidelines for drawing up the BPL list in the state. He also said that he would finish the survey work within two months of getting the guidelines from the Centre.

The BPL list, which is supposed to be prepared once in every five years, has not been prepared since last 14 years. The last guidelines were prepared in 1997.
