Reshuffle in Biju Mahila Janata Dal; Minati Behera appointed new president

Bhubaneswar: In a major reshuffle in the Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD), the women wing of the ruling BJD, Minati Behera has been appointed as the new president of the party wing. The decision was announced in an official release by the party today.

Behera who resigned as the Chairperson of the State Commission of Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) will replace Pramila Mallick the outgoing president of the women wing of the party. Mallick has been assigned the role of the vice-president.

The newly appointed president Behera said that she would take steps to take the organisation forward.

“Apart from strengthening, I will take steps to take the organisation forward and create awareness about women rights in the State,” Behera said.

State Women Commission Chairperson, Lopamudra Baxipatra also resigned from her post and has been made the working president of BMJD.

Lopamudra resigned around 8-10 days before the completion of her tenure. She has sent her resignation to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

“I would take up any role assigned to me by the party. I will raise awareness about women related welfare schemes of the government and work towards strengthening of the women wing of the party,” Baxipatra said on her new role.

This apart, Jyoti Panigrahi and Kasturi Mohapatra have been appointed as co-advisors of the women wing.

Apart from Lopamudra, Shreemayee Sweta Snigdha Mishra, Sulochana Das and Gitarani Bastia have also been made working presidents of the BMJD.

Sulata Deo has been appointed as the General Secretary while Elina Dash would take over as the secretary of the women wing of the BJD.
