Resentment in Berhampur unit of BJD as members threaten revolt

Berhampur: Resentment is brewing in Berhampur unit of BJD over reports that the sitting MLA Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik might face the axe. During a meeting held in Berhampur, supporters of the legislator led by former district president of the party, Subash Moharana demanded that Chyau Patnaik should be given BJD ticket again or else there will be severe protests.

“There are talks that Chyau Patnaik will face the axe. Why he is being repeatedly told that he will get Rajya Sabha MP post? We believe efforts are being made to deprive him of party ticket. If the MLA does not get ticket again, the resentment and anger will take a deadly form,” said Moharana.

Those who have joined BJD from other parties should be accommodated elsewhere, he added.

Meanwhile, Chyau Patnaik said he has already met the Chief Minister and BJD president, Naveen Patnaik and appraised the latter of his supporters’ wishes.

“The supporters want me to contest on party ticket. I have already informed the Chief Minister and asked for a ticket,” said Chyau Patnaik.
