Bhubaneswar: Amidst concerns over deficit rainfall, several parts of Odisha battling drought threat have begun to receive rainfall today under the impact of a cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal, giving much relief to lakhs of farmers of the State.

As per meteorological sources, a cyclonic circulation formed over Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a low-pressure triggering heavy to very heavy rainfall in the State until July 28.

“The cyclonic circulation presently lying over north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast will intensify into low pressure. Under its influence, several places of the State will witness rainfall from today,” informed meteorologist of Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre, Laxmidhar Mohapatra.

Mohapatra said that heavy rain will occur in one or two places of southern Odisha including Koraput and Malkangiri in the next 24 hours. Similarly, places including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak over northern parts of the State will also receive heavy rainfall today.

Sources said, farmers have begun their agrarian works like sowing and ploughing activities on a war footing following the rains.

Meanwhile, due to heavy rain, some parts of the Twin Cities experienced a deluge due to rainwater logging.

It may be noted that the State has recorded 32 per cent deficit rainfall from June 1 to July 24.
