Malkangiri: After a brief lull, left wing extremists have once again made their presence felt in the cut-off area of Malkangiri by allegedly executing a man at Bihanagudi village square under Jodamba Gram Panchayat suspecting him to be a police informer.

As per the reports, some people suspected to be Maoists called one Dinabandhu Bepari to Panasput market where he was found shot dead on Sunday.

Speaking to media, his wife Savitri said, “I don’t know the men who called my husband out to accompany them to Panasput market. They must have killed him midway.”

However, surprisingly, the body of Dinabandhu is still lying on the road and hasn’t been recovered yet, even after two days since the killing. Police could not be contacted in connection with the case.

Notably, the villagers and Maoists have been at loggerheads since past few weeks in Malkangiri. Recently some villagers allegedly killed two Maoists in Janturai area which sparked a retaliatory torching of houses by the Maoists in the region. Following the incident, heavy security was deployed in the area, to keep a leash on Maoists from creating further unrest in the area.

Threatening the villagers of dire consequences, Maoists had pasted posters and banners warning the villagers that once the police and the heavy security personnel deployed in the area leave, the locals would be at the mercy of the Maoists. So they should refrain from deflecting to the opposite camp and shun the administration and its lure.
