Malkangiri: Maoist ultras on the first day of the two-day bandh call today brutally slit the throat of one Rama Kunja at village Bhubanpalli under MV-79 police station even as the district police claimed that elaborate security arrangements were in place to tackle the marauding left wing extremists. With the Maoists killing targets at their own sweet will it seemed the police and the security apparatus have adopted an hands off approach to contain Maoist menace. Today`s victim Rama Kunja was the head of village Bhubanpalli and he was killed for uncertain reasons.

On the first day of the bandh, the Maoist cadres laid seize to several important roads in the district by felling trees and digging holes thus bringing vehicullar traffic to a grinding halt in most parts of the district. There was absolutely no communication between Jeypore-Motu, Malkangiri-Chitrakonda, Kalimela-Padia and Kalimela-Bhekangiwada.

Shops and business establishments remained closed in Kalimela, Padia, Kudumullugumma and MV-79 areas as Maoists through large number of posters and banners have urged the people to support the bandh. The Maoists pointed out that the government has failed completely to fulfill the conditions it had agreed to at the time of the release of former district collector R Vinyl Krishna.
